"The Mind’s GPS"

The best — and indeed the only —

way to activate a conscious mind in situations of high uncertainty

and extreme stress is to narrow the domain ruled by uncertainty as much as possible.

As the situation becomes clearer,

the realm of uncertainty correspondingly shrinks.

The idea that humans are capable of multitasking is a myth;

in reality, we can only switch between tasks.

However, each time a switch occurs, cognitive load increases,

and the mental energy available to us diminishes.

No matter how hard we prepare,

we also know that we cannot prevent every challenge and crisis.

The Stoic philosophers advise us not to view these as misfortunes,

but to embrace them as opportunities for growth and development.

Defeat is a state of mind.

No one is truly defeated unless they accept defeat as reality.

Andrew McConnell is a graduate of Harvard University and has worked as a lawyer and consultant at prestigious firms such as Merrill Lynch and McKinsey. He later founded Rented, a company recognized twice in the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing private companies, and is now a bestselling author.

His book 'Get Out of My Head'  presents 13 key mindsets for a successful life, drawing on the timeless wisdom of Stoic philosophy that has been passed down for over 2,300 years.

McConnell emphasizes that successful people are not distinguished by extraordinary talent or privileged backgrounds, but by their attitude toward challenges. Combining his own experiences with Stoic teachings, he explains how to maintain inner calm amid uncertainty and achieve positive outcomes by harnessing the power within.
