술에 취해 거리에 잠들어 있던 주정뱅이를
사람들이 공작의 집에 데리고 가서
깨끗이 씻기고 새 옷으로 갈아입힌 다음,
공작의 침대에 눕혔다.
그리고 그가 깨어나자 공작을 대하듯 극진히 모셨다.
주정뱅이는 그동안 자신이 제정신이
아니었다는 것을 깨달았다.
이 이야기가 인기를 끄는 이유는
주정뱅이가 인간의 상태를 상징하기 때문이다.
요컨대 우리는 이 세상에서 일종의 주정뱅이처럼 산다.
그러다가 문득문득 정신을 차리고는
