Letting go

If letting go is so important, why do we struggle to do it?

The painful memories of loss leave a deep impact on our hearts,

often beyond our control.

To let go, we must first stop holding on.

However, this requires a completely different approach.

Imagine holding a small stone in your hand and lifting it.

Keeping the stone in place takes effort,

tensing the muscles in your hand.

To release it, you must relax your muscles and loosen your grip.

Letting go happens not through force but by ceasing the act of holding on.

The same principle applies to the mind. In this case,

the tightly clenched hand represents mental tension.

To truly let go, we need to relax our minds and loosen our grip

—both emotionally and mentally.

Rather than letting go of an object itself,

we must release our attachment to it,

shifting our perspective instead.

Peter Russell is a leading thinker, writer, and speaker in the fields of modern spirituality and human consciousness. He studied meditation and Eastern philosophy in India. In the 1980s, he was the first to use the term global brain, predicting the impact the internet would have on humanity.

One of his books, Letting Go of Nothing, was personally selected for an edition by Eckhart Tolle and guides readers to discover the inner freedom and peace that already exist within them. In this book, Russell emphasizes that true happiness comes from releasing fixed beliefs, perspectives, expectations about the past or future, and attachments to possessions or relationships.

He also points out that the functioning of the physical world alone cannot explain the immaterial phenomenon of consciousness. He defines consciousness as the ability to have inner experiences.
